Honestly, I don't believe a cracked frame gun is worth the effort and dollars to salvage it. These DOM's suggest that Colt may not be supporting this model any longer. The gun was made from 1955 to 1953(1st issue) the 2nd issue was made from 1973 to 1986. Spec) The difference in the Agent is a shorter butt for easier concelment. The gun is basically the same as the Cobra(which is a LW version of the Det. The current market value of the Agent is approx $400 in excellent condition(1st issue) the Agent lightweight or 2nd issue is about $50 less. The crack is usually a symptom of a bigger and more dangerous issue.Īny welding requires a specialist and the use of special equipment.A Heat Sink to control over heating.the use of a heat stop paste and a controlled cooling to prevent warpage is a must.Threads may require recutting.the frame will or may require a re-heat treat and blueprinting. Cracks from pressure do noy ONLY cause cracks.there will be frame the frame and cylender/crane assy out of spec.Īny firearm that has cracks should be viewed with a jaundiced eye. If it was an over torquing of the barrel or the gun was dropped and landed firmly on the muzzle causing the crack.that is one thing.if the crack is the result of using +P or +P+ factory ammo.or trying to work up a reload to wring out the highest possible velocities.that is another matter. That said, just about anything can be welded.the BIG question is exactly what happened to cause the crack.
